Stop processes that print

You may have a process in the background (in your shell), which may want to print to std out/std err. This might disturb you by causing text to appear on your screen in the middle of some other task.

stty tostop

This will pause any program trying to write to std out or std err. You can do a “fg” and return to this program later (to check its output).
